December 5, 2016: DFAT updates its DPRK sanctions regulations

The Australian Government has implemented changes to Australia’s sanctions on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) in line with its international obligations under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2270 (2016).

The Australian Government has implemented the changes to its sanctions on North Korea by amending the Charter of the United Nations (Sanctions – Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) Regulations 2008.

The purpose of the Charter of the United Nations (Sanctions — Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) Amendment Regulations 2016 is to amend the Charter of the United Nations (Sanctions — Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) Regulations 2008, to implement Australia’s obligations under United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution 2270 (2016), modifying sanctions in relation to North Korea.

 

A new consolidated version of the 2008 Regulations which incorporates the amendments will be made available on the Federal Register of Legislation soon. In the meantime, you will need to read the 2008 Regulations with reference to the amendments made by the 2016 Amendment Regulation.
